Newleaders.Africa is an initiative of the African Leadership Institute - to connect young African leaders from across Africa and to connect organisations to them.
The African Leadership Institute (AFLI) focuses on building the capacity and capability of visionary and strategic servant leadership across the continent. Developing exceptional leaders representing all spheres of society, the Institute’s flagship programme is the prestigious Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship. It is awarded annually to 20-25 carefully chosen candidates, nominated from across Africa.
This site seeks to go beyond the Tutu Fellowship to the broader community of young leaders and to leverage further the positive impact that young leaders can have on the direction of the African continent. AFLI is partnering with leadership development programme organisations - and their alumni - to jointly create a network of young African leaders who collectively can accomplish more than the sum of the individuals are able to.
Please visit the AFLI website to learn more about the institute and the Ford Foundation funded Pakati Project, of which this is a part.
Newleaders.Africa is a platform that connects new African leaders to each other and to external organisations that wish to leverage their leadership skills and talent. The identity of the platform is based on the notion of ‘bringing people together’ to communicate, connect and collaborate towards a better Africa.
The Newleaders.Africa logo has strong African influences. In keeping with the essence of connectivity, the Newleaders.Africa logo is inspired by, and derives from, Nsibidi script, which is indigenous to south-east Nigeria. The Nsibidi icon, depicted with two lines joining and one across, means ‘to tie’ together, graphically representing the essence of Newleaders.Africa. The colour scheme is also deliberate and imbued with meaning and significance. Green, yellow and red are emblematic of most African countries’ flags. They have come to be adopted as colours of Pan-African ideology and are well aligned with the goal of the platform of bringing together new African leaders from across the continent to co-create the Africa they want. In the words of a famous African proverb, If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
